Travel Treasures Journal

$20.00

Oh boy the sheep sure had fun designing this journal! They can be a little bossy but I did get it put together to their satisfaction- it is so cute! We are working on learning the way of video flip-throughs of journals and related items we offer for sale here. A Youtube channel is coming soon but for now, lots of words to describe the journals. Thank you for your patience!

The sheep chose a vintage The Modern Webster Dictionary, With an Atlas of the World. It was printed in 1940. The pages and spine were a bit fragile so I decided to disassemble the book. The book measures 8 x 6 inches and has a soft cover. Not a paperback, it is just not a traditional weight cover. It’s a little bendy. I backed it with a file folder to give it a bit more substance to keep it’s shape and be fun for a very long time.

I used vintage fabric to reinforce the spine with a strip of antique trim from a friend’s mom/grandma. They were seamstresses who made clothes and doll clothes. There were 17 children so there was a lot of sewing going on! Wowser!

The pages are sewn together, but not sewn into the binding. Instead, the sheep added a piece of elastic that allows the pages to be removed/added to easily. There are 10 pages (20 front/back) that are a variety of vintage paper and original ephemera- most are vintage. The pages measure a little smaller than the cover. (The sheep got too happy making this journal and did not measure the elastic quite right.) The pages measure 6 x 5.

I added a pocket to the inside of the back cover and a tuck on the inside of the front cover. There is plenty of room to store papers and such. The sheep used their imagination when they chose the ephemera. Things a traveler might bring home from a vacation. Things they might have needed to pass the time in the car, photos and such. The pages are only lightly decorated. You could use the journal as it is, use the included ephemera and/or your own mementos to decorate your new journal.

Don’t judge this one by the cover- it is unique and only has two maps included! It is just waiting for you to add your own touch!
