Our OohMahNee Rescue Boys!
Our OohMahNee Rescue Boys!
Here is a wonderful group of sheep we adopted from OohMahNee Farmed Animal Rescue of Hunker, Pennsylvania! Two of their wonderful rescuers- Jason & Jay- drove these sweet sheep all the way to our farm! The sheep have been through a lot and the OohMahNee group has worked hard to place the sheep in forever homes. They started out in January 2004 with close to 150 sheep in this herd and to date have placed all but around 80--in safe, loving homes across the country. They have also worked very hard to get the sheep healthy, neutered, vaccinated, wormed and micro-chipped so they could be happy in new homes. Update 2005: We are sad to report that due to financial reasons, the OohMahNee rescue has closed its doors and is in the process of placing its resident animals with other rescue groups. Donations made in the past several months are being used to transport the animals to their new forever homes. Lots of good work has been done for years by the people at OohMahNee and we wish them luck in their new pursuits..... Click here to read about more sheep from this flock (relatives to ours!) and how they are doing now at Farm Sanctuary in New York....(October 2005)

Dorsey is a pretty Icelandic/Merino cross boy who is named after Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey, two famous band leaders from Pennsylvania. He is a very sweet sheep who was the tamest of the group when he arrived. He loves to be hugged up and a good scratch under his chin! His fleece is soft, leans toward the Merino but does have guard hair in his fleece from the Icelandic-locks of 4+ inches and soft soft!

Steeler was named such because he stole my heart and is a Pittsburgh football fan! He has the cutest wrinkly Merino nose and loves to be petted and hugged now. He didn't take too long to come around and he is a younger sheep with a very fine fleece!

Dan Merino (of course) the famous quarter back from Pennsylvania! Dan is an older Merino sheep who is a little reserved but likes his chin scratched--and lots of treats! He is a beautiful boy and keeps good watch over the other sheep.

Foster is named for the famous Pittsburgh composer Stephen Foster. He is a very typey Merino who loves to follow us around the pastures and have lots of hugs..... Foster's fleece is a blend of Merino and Icelandic, much like Dorsey's--wonderful!
