Diamonte
Diamonte
Diamonte (aka Monte) is an Australian Thorobred who came to us years ago to keep Crissy company. He spent most of his life as a polo pony in New York and Wisconsin. He is a wonderful guy, 28 years old and still going strong, just slowing down a bit.

Monte has come through another winter and is going strong! He is hooked on sugar cubes and loves his new pasture. He has learned many new games from Casper, including playing ball, tug of war with Casper, using the hose from the water tank, and spirited games of tag. He is so tolerant of Casper's quite juvenile behavior--if Monte decides to nap in the sun, Casper spends that time teasing him, by standing on him with his front feet, pulling his mane and tail and chewing on him! Somehow, Monte manages to sleep through all of it!

Monte is wonderful and in his latest picture (far right) I caught him trading secrets with my little Piper poopsie! Piper thinks Monte is a big sheep and they visit across the gate quite often. Monte is benefiting from a change in supplements this year too and came through the winter much better--with more weight and shiny as can be--surely does not look like he is 28 years old at all. My Grandmother Holtz would have told me to put a 'sack of flour' on his head to keep him from getting older! (actually the quote had to do with us getting taller but oh well!) He is still so patient with Casper but definitely keeps that little bugger in line if he steps over!

Monte has moved on to a better place, he got so sick he could not go on this past fall so we had to let him go. I cannot even say how much I miss him, we had him for almost 20 years, he was over 30. I hope he has found my Crissy horse and is galloping around snorting like a steam engine, and just racing around like he did when he was younger....... sleep well my friend
