Cricket!
Cricket!
Cricket arrived as a 6 month old, starving horse. She has quite a story- she was rescued from the sale barn by a young girl named Erika from Minnesota. She goes to sales, buys needy horses and finds them homes, or trains/shows them. She is one special kid.

Best we can figure, Cricket was one of many 'throw away' babies, who knows why, but she did not even know what oats were when Erika brought her home. She was not sure Cricket would even live she was so thin.

Once in a while I do cruise around on Craigs List- and when I saw this picture, I would have sworn my old Crissy horse (I had Crissy from 6 months of age til I had to put her to sleep at almost 30) was back walking the earth? I talked to Erika, then my friend Petra. Petra is a very dedicated rescuer, mainly of dogs but she also has horses, donkeys and llamas that have come across her path over the years.

Petra is so wonderful, she never hesitated when I asked her to bring her trailer and help me get Cricket home. Her hubby got a little blindsided- and he really did blame me so I guess I deserved it PETRA??- because he did not realise how far we had to drive to Cricket- in central/northern MN. Eek! We were in the truck from before 5 am that Sunday til after 9 that night. Ugh. What a day but when I saw Cricket, I knew it was the right thing to do. She is SO much like Crissy it is almost eerie.

Needless to say, she did survive and is catching up on lost time- she is two now and wow, what a big girl. I cannot wait to get going on ground training her this spring- she is so smart and she needs a job.

I was really hesitant to bring home another horse, specially one I would always compare to Crissy, but when we lost Monte, we needed to have a friend for Cassper. I am not sorry we have her- not one bit- I guess there are plans for us that we cannot explain.... she came in at the right time for everyone involved.... I adore her!
