Our Kelly girl
Our Kelly girl
Kelly has found her special niche in our little place here--she has turned into the best ever babysitter for our little orphan lambs! She really went down hill missing her friend Rosie after Rosie passed away. It was a hard thing to watch but when Devlyn and Jonty arrived early this spring, they moved in to keep her company til they were big enough to be out in the next group of sheep. Kelly rebounded very well and now has a special place in each little lamb's heart as they arrive needing shelter and love.... We are so glad to see her happy with life again.

She was one of a wonderful group of sheep we adopted from OohMahNee Farmed Animal Rescue of Hunker, Pennsylvania several years ago. The sheep had been through a lot and OohMahNee started out with close to 150 sheep in this herd and all found safe, forever homes across the country. Our Kelly (named after Grace Kelly--who was the famous actress/princess from Pennsylvania)--a Merino who is about 10 years old and needing some special care--so of course, she is a princess in her own way! Kelly kept Holly company while we all waited for Mari to be born..... Kelly is a very sweet girl who is good to everyone in her 'group'. She is still having some trouble with one foot/hoof but that is improving over time. She will probably never trust people completely and was very shy to begin with because some person hurt her badly enough to break her poor hip--she has permanent damage and a limp but she is fine physically now--just not in her poor head. She will come up and eat grain if I hold a bucket for her now so we just want her to feel safe--even if it is from a distance from us! We love her!

Our sweet Kelly could not get through another winter, her arthritic hip was failing and we had to say goodbye to our old friend. Her bottle babies will miss the chance to be raised and watched over by her- as will her best friend Bela. They were SUCH good friends-Bela has taken over with our little Wyatt (aka Sprinkles) lamb but life is just not the same for any of us- Kelly was so much a part of everything here, and she showed us a level of trust that I am sure no human in her life ever deserved. Her life revolved around those lambs and her other special needs buddies. She never trusted me enough to tolerate hugs, but if you sat long enough, she would come barely close enough to take an apple treat, then retreat to her safe places to chomp it happily. I loved her for who she was, and was happy for any time that we had together. She stayed with us much longer than we ever thought she would- but it was still not nearly enough time. It is childish of me but I know she must be up there, galloping around on good legs/hips, with all the lambs that have gone before her from our little farm. Until we meet again Kelly, sleep well, safe and happy my sweet sheep.
