Roving & Batts

Our Batts include fiber that has been carefully hand washed, dyed and mechanically carded into large batts here at the farm. The batts measure about 18 x 36 inches when removed from the carder and weighed, then sent to you to spin! They are very easy to spin, either by separating a strip from the batt (which is very similar to roving because of its length), starting in a corner of the batt or drafting the batt into roving. You never know what you will find in our Crazy Quilt batts--from yarn snips to silk and colors colors colors!!!

Our Roving is prepared at www.morrofleeceworks.com by our friend Shari, or www.argylefibermill.com by our group of local friends at their sparkling new mill!
Here is a sampling of our offerings: Clouds- (Argyle) are a step short of roving--the fiber is washed, picked, then run through a de-hairing machine, leaving a wonderful, loosely prepared cloud (similar to a batt) of fiber! Roving- (Argyle & Shari) is wonderfully carded roving, that is a looser preparation than most commercial rovings, making for effortless drafting. Pin Drafted Roving (Shari) is a step beyond roving, where the roving is run through one more carding machine to add side by side colors, firestar and more!
All of our fiber preparations are wonderful for spinning AND felting! Please visit our FAQ pages for more fiber and sheep info!
We do not breed sheep (or eat any of our animals!) because we could never bear to part with any of them! Many of the animals we have were injured, ill or in need of a home when they arrived here and they will all live out the rest of their lives with us.... Our 'flock' is a very pampered bunch!!
