Animal Friendly Handspun Yarns
My 'fiber addiction' grew from a pretty Suffolk ewe (Woolamina) who was our first sheep some years ago. She was given to us by a friend and everything went from there. I decided I needed to do something with her beautiful wool so found someone to teach me to spin--and gained a great appreciation of not only fiber art but sheep as well! My fun has grown to include the items you see offered on our site and a larger 'flock' of sheep and friends who provide us with wonderful fiber--and many hours of love, entertainment and comfort.
We do not breed our sheep or eat them because we could never bear to part with any of them! Many of the animals we have were injured, ill or in need of a home when they arrived here and they will all live out the rest of their lives with us.... Our 'flock' is a very pampered bunch!!
Our yarn is handspun right here at the farm where all the washing, dyeing and a portion of the carding even takes place. I use either my antique European flax or Norwegian wool spinning wheels or my new Kromski Symphony wheel..... Like our spinning fiber, each yarn selection is designed to be distinctly unique. Each fiber spins up differently so the weight and texture varies.
Our offerings vary widely, from traditional two-ply handspun all the way to some very wacky novelty yarns! Single ply yarn includes our very popular Crazy Quilt line, inspired by the work of my great-grandmother Emma Lamp. She was a wonderful, talented artist who spent her time creating beautiful crazy quilts and hand braided rugs. Her work inspires much of the color you see in our products.... Some items you might find in our yarn include vintage buttons, sequins, beads and much much more!
