Wait for me! (bowl)
Wait for me! (bowl)

I'm sure you've read many times about the little families that form with in our flock. Mom sheep look after their lambs their entire lives if they are allowed to stay together. They never forget each other.

When a mom sheep has twins, there is generally one rapscallion that keeps her hopping and one lamb who is a little quieter, less rowdy. The mom often puts her quiet lamb in a spot while she rounds the wild one back up. Kind of like deer do with their fawns.

This is a wooden bowl painted with an original design by me, based on the love of a lamb and the lamb doing what she wants, all cuddled up safe til she gets back. "Wait for me here" she must say? She always comes back and I love to see the strong bond between them. It never breaks.

This is a vintage wool bowl, small salad bowl size (?). I painted the sheep and design, then added a protective coating. Josie sheep decided this little sheep needed some actual protection. She added her friend Rose's brown Romney locks around the outside. (I handspun the locks onto a wire core to make it bendie). Then she added in some pretty lash yarn I spun from suri alpaca and mohair. The yarn he is snuggled into is soft and dyed some muted natural field grass colors.

Hope you'll add this painting/textile art to your collection- or what a fun gift for someone special!

(PS- this photo does NOT do justice to the painting- it is much more detailed in person.)
