Crazy Quilt Handspun Yarn!
(you can find the sheep's yarn here- Super bulky to lace weight- custom orders happily accepted!)
I was a lucky girl who had a Great Grandmother (Emma Lamp) who was not only a sweet lady, awesome with her grandchildren, but she was so artistic and wild with her color choices! She spent hours braiding rugs and sewing beautiful crazy quilts. The upholstry shop down the block gave her boxes and boxes of scrap fabrics to use in her creations.
She also had her favorite outfits she designed- one was a crazy quilt outfit- right down the the slippers, the other a leopard print! I adored her- and I miss her.
Grandma Lamp is the inspiration for all my color and dye work. She had such a free spirit and I hope she would like what the sheep and I have created here. I sure miss her!
I spin our yarn here at the farm, almost exclusively with our own sheep's animal friendly fiber. The sheep like to buy fleeces from nearby animal friendly flocks and incude lots of add ins in our builkier Crazy Quilt yarns. Things like silk scarf/blouse strips, soy silk, tussah silk, bamboo fiber, vintage fabric strips and vintage items. Don't forget the fun add ins like beads and much more!
Each skein tells the story of the sheep you are buying from. Ingredients are also listed, along with weights. Please keep in mind that the yarn weight terms are very subjective now days. Depending on the style of handspun, there can be blips that I call character! Our dyelots and colors can vary between skeins.
I learned to spin on an antique flax wheel from Russia. Now I am hooked on the antique wheels and have quite a 'stable' built up! You can NEVER have enough yarn, fiber, sheep OR spinning wheels! ha! I do have several newer wheels including a Kromski Symphony, Rio Grande and Babe Bulky Spinner. I also was recently traded an antique walking wheel (aka walking wheel) complete with every part- no missing pulleys or spindle! Wow! Still learning to spin on that one. I am a moody spinner so each wheel has a special yarn it likes to spin. It is not often I don't have spinning going on at least 4 of them- too bad I can't spin on them all at once- snicker. (or maybe the sheep could learn??? make that 'would'? stinkers)
Any of our skeins can be sent to you as center pulls or skeins- some of the larger bulky yarns would not be viable center pulls but I could wind them into a an old fashioned yarn ball?!
Custom spinning orders are happily accepted- your fiber/fleece or ours. Please email the sheep for more information.
We also accept wholesale orders for our yarn. You need to provide a Tax ID. Choose your own style, weight and fiber of yarn- again, please email for more info!
Please stop on by our FAQ page for more info about our products. You can 'meet the sheep' and read their bios too!
Smooches from the sheeps everyone!
